Lake Dian is the largest freshwater lake in Yunnan Province and an important protected water resource. An illegal villa development was constructed within the Lake Dian Secondary Protection Zone, causing significant ecological and economic damage before construction was halted by the local government.
Instead of completely demolishing the remaining structures, this project proposes transforming the abandoned development into a Ruins Park. By combining the partially demolished buildings with re-greening technologies and ecological restoration strategies, the project creates spaces for both citizens and wildlife while allowing nature to reclaim the site.
The project explores urban rewilding as an alternative to demolition, turning abandoned structures into opportunities for ecological recovery and public space.
