Qingdao Poly Yuancheng Majestic Mountain 120 Model Room

Located in Qingdao’s West Coast New Area, this low-density residence for urban professional families explores the theme “Light Reflects Shell and Stone, Painting Life with Warmth.” Inspired by mother-of-pearl, luxury stone, and the coastal character of Qingdao, the design integrates material aesthetics with everyday living to create a natural, warm, and artistic home. Rather than treating materials as purely decorative elements, the design introduces a sense of ritual into daily life, creating spaces that encourage relaxation, creativity, and family interaction.
Mother-of-pearl serves as a recurring design language throughout the residence. White and yellow mother-of-pearl appear in the entrance artwork, living room coffee table, and master bedroom lighting, establishing a continuous material narrative from public to private areas. Its reflective quality is balanced with low-saturation wood tones and earth-colored textiles, creating visual warmth and preventing excessive ornamentation. The design also responds to the family’s interests and lifestyles: the study supports the homeowner’s interest in architectural photography, while the children’s room and balcony incorporate painting and parent-child creative activities. Music and reading are integrated into the master bedroom to create a restorative personal setting.
Within the approximately 120-square-meter layout, functionality is enhanced without additional wall construction. Furniture, accessories, and built-in cabinetry define overlapping scenarios and improve spatial efficiency. A detailed storage system is developed according to user behavior and storage frequency, covering the entrance, kitchen, master wardrobe, utility balcony, and bathroom. Different storage methods are clearly integrated into drawers, shelves, and cabinets, allowing practical functions to coexist with the visual requirements of a model home.
The extensive application of mother-of-pearl also required careful consideration of cost, visual impact, and spatial harmony. Material specifications were standardized, while applications were concentrated according to spatial priority to maintain balance. Sustainability is addressed through the use of natural materials such as mother-of-pearl, stone, and cotton-linen textiles, alongside the reuse of existing furnishings from previous projects. By retaining the existing layout, reducing unnecessary construction, and integrating multiple everyday scenarios into compact spaces, the design combines material expression, practical living, and long-term environmental responsibility.
