Funeral is a series of installation artworks centered on the spiritual connection between the departed and the living world. During the creative process, I conducted an in-depth study of traditional Chinese funerary culture, systematically examining classic burial practices such as sky burial, earth burial, and cremation, in an attempt to uncover the cultural connotations and spiritual essence underlying these diverse forms. While each ritual differs in ceremony and form, carrying distinct regional customs and value systems, they all share a common spiritual foundation: using unique rituals as a medium to sustain emotional bonds between the deceased and the living, and to build a spiritual bridge for dialogue across the boundary of life and death. Through the contemporary language of installation art, this work reinterprets the philosophical reflections on the interdependence of life and death and the continuation of the soul, inviting viewers to confront the ultimate questions of existence within a silent, contemplative space.
