Starting from a raw, unfinished condition, this project is designed as a residence for a pilot couple. Drawing from their professional experiences and personal story, the concept of “Concrete Airways” translates their lives—constantly traveling through skies and airports—into an image.
Rather than centering the home around the living room, the design shifts the focus to the dining table, redefining daily life around communication and shared moments. The original three-bedroom layout is reconfigured into two bedrooms, expanding the social area and allowing circulation to flow like flight routes. Elements of collection, cooking, and coffee culture are integrated, forming a living environment rooted in everyday life yet enriched with memories of travel.
Upon entering, the living room intentionally downplays its central role. Without a TV wall, the sofa can be freely oriented, freeing the space from a fixed viewpoint and allowing it to respond to the occupants’ dynamic lifestyle.
The focus shifts to the dining table and coffee bar, where LEGO models extend along the walls and table edges, forming a distinct visual identity.
A curved arch—transformed from an existing beam—becomes a pivotal spatial element. The previously oppressive structure is enveloped and extended into a runway-inspired curve, softening the space while defining its zones.
Between the entryway and living area, contrasts in material and height articulate spatial transitions: one side conceals utilities behind wood finishes, while the other exposes raw concrete textures, symbolizing the balance between the two occupants’ contrasting personalities.
Lighting design layers track lights, pendant fixtures, and indirect sources, creating a rhythm of illumination that echoes flight paths throughout the space.
