Located in the East District of Hsinchu City, the project embraces the theme of “Life’s Commas,” shaping the residence into a place for both rest and memory. By interweaving grilles, varied materials, and contrasting colors, the design balances pauses and continuities, akin to the transitions between life’s fragments.
Proportional rhythm was a critical focus to avoid falling into formulaic “Muji-style” impressions. Wooden grilles paired with black-painted finishes and veneer panels layer the entryway and dining area, while the study and living room were opened into a space featuring gray mirrors and metallic paint to convey understated luxury. Ceiling beams were visually dissolved with mirrored treatments, transforming interruptions into extensions. The designer believes that “the meaning of home is not simply to provide shelter, but to weave daily life into memorable light and shadow.” In this way, rest and memory intertwine to define home, growing with the family over time.
