Living Sonic Architecture and Museum: A Generative AI Performance with Asia’s Largest Pipe Organ
This project transforms the Weiwuying Concert Hall—home to Asia’s largest pipe organ—into a “living sonic architecture” and a dynamic museum, presenting a contemporary Gesamtkunstwerk that integrates music, image, and space.
The work is structured around Tyzen Hsiao’s Prelude for Pipe Organ and Hsiao-Yi Yu’s arrangement of White Peony, alongside visual translations of Huei-Tung Chen’s Sanctuary and Hsiang-Yin Chen’s Floral series. Through generative AI image extension and super-resolution reconstruction, the system learns the brushwork and color logic of the paintings, transforming static artworks into dynamic 8K visuals that unfold over time.
A real-time generative visual system, built on TouchDesigner, captures the organ’s audio, rhythm, and airflow, translating sound into spatial light. By incorporating Gaussian Splatting techniques, sonic energy is rendered as fluid, particle-based volumetric visuals, creating a visible architecture of sound in space.
Through low-latency transmission and real-time computation, performance, sound, and image are synchronized into a continuously evolving perceptual field. The project redefines the boundaries between concert and exhibition, establishing a new paradigm of interdisciplinary contemporary art from Taiwan.
