Now entering its seventh edition, the Taoyuan Mesona Flower Carnival set out with the core objective of strengthening brand identity and expanding tourism impact. This year, the planning team introduced an IP collaboration strategy to enhance recognizability and communication value, transforming a local floral event into a more distinctive and shareable cultural festival.
Building upon the established purple imagery of mesona flowers, the event incorporated Kuromi, a character widely loved by families and younger audiences. Through a combination of large-scale art installations, social media exposure, and curated tourism routes, the carnival aspired to become one of Taoyuan’s most anticipated autumn–winter floral celebrations, seamlessly blending agriculture, creativity, and popular culture.
2025’s carnival marked the largest scale and richest content in the event’s history. The core exhibition area comprised approximately 2 hectares of mesona flower fields and 2.1 hectares of cosmos flower landscapes. By staggering blooming periods and layering colors, the design created a continuous flower-viewing route that encouraged prolonged stays, shifting the experience from single-point photo-taking to immersive exploration.
Another highlight was the comprehensive upgrade of large-scale thematic installations. For the first time, straw weaving was adopted as the primary creative material, producing highly recognizable character installations. This approach broke away from previous limitations, which favored lightweight materials due to Yangmei’s strong winter winds. Each straw structure required wind-resistant frameworks before artisans manually layered, shaped, and refined the forms. From proportions and facial expressions to fine detailing, every element was repeatedly adjusted on site to achieve optimal visual balance.
Compared to modular fabrication, this labor-intensive process significantly increased construction difficulty and time, while imbuing the installations with a distinct sense of craftsmanship, warmth, and texture—qualities rarely found in standardized event structures.
