CoreChair Elite was inspired by Patrick Harrison, Kinesiologist and Clinical Seating Specialist for non-ambulatory individuals dependent on wheelchairs for mobility.
The concept of the design encourages optimal sitting posture by focusing on pelvic stability much like an orthotic device embracing the pelvis in an upright neutral position that encourages an aligned and balanced ascending spine. This balanced posture is less reliant on external supports and ensures healthy stimulation of neural, circulatory and musculoskeletal body functions.
Considering the deleterious effects of sedentary behaviour and the influence of traditional ergonomic chair designs that most often over support, the CoreChair incorporates an active sitting mechanism that encourages articulation of the seat pan and in turn the users pelvis about a pivot immediately beneath the users centre of mass. The efficacy of this mechanism integrated into the design has been validated by 6 prominent University studies to confidently declare that this feature is a true health benefit.
The CoreChair Elite model incorporates this feature as the foundation of support focusing on pelvic stabilization and introduces a two tiered back support where the lower support embraces the pelvis and the upper support connects with a flexible "clever spine" ascending column that in addition to mechanical features incorporated, allows for natural movement of the users thoracic spine through flexion, extension and lateral rotation.
The overall expectation of the CoreChair Elite is to provide optimal sitting posture while introducing both subtle and engaged healthy movement to relieve back pain exacerbated sitting static as well as the physiological implications associated with sedentariness.
