Located in the tropical warmth of Pingtung, Taiwan, this 165-square-meter apartment reimagines the "American Classic" aesthetic for a modern family of three adults—a mother, a son, and a daughter. Moving away from the heavy, complex moldings of traditional American design, this project adopts a "Modern American" approach. The design language focuses on simplified lines, generous proportions, and a sophisticated color palette that reflects the family's desire for elegance without visual clutter.
The visual identity of the home is anchored by a unique "Avocado Green" used on feature walls, complemented by titanium-plated gold metal trims. This combination offers a sense of understated luxury and calm, breaking away from the standard white-on-white palette often found in the region. The living area is designed to feel expansive; instead of lowering the ceiling to hide structural beams, the design integrates them into a coffered-style ceiling architecture, creating a sense of verticality and grandeur rarely seen in single-floor apartments.
Functionality meets wellness in the heart of the home. The mother, who prioritizes health, requested a dedicated wellness zone. In response, a custom far-infrared sauna was seamlessly integrated into the cabinetry near the open-plan kitchen, disguised as a standard storage unit to maintain visual continuity. Durability was also a key mandate. High-traffic areas feature wood-look porcelain tiles and quartz stone surfaces, ensuring the home remains pristine despite Pingtung's heat and humidity.
Lighting plays a crucial role in the atmosphere. The living room eschews a traditional central chandelier in favor of architectural wall washers and recessed lighting, allowing the family to adjust the mood from bright and energetic to soft and intimate. From the masculine, grey-toned suite for the son to the softer, pink-accented quarters for the daughter, each private space is tailored to the individual while maintaining the home's cohesive language of refined comfort.
