Taichung Nantun Zhenfu Section No. 32

Located in Nantun District, Taichung City, the site adjoins Longzhen 2nd Street and Longfu 10th Road, with quick access to Provincial Highway 74 and the High-Speed Rail Station, offering both convenient transport and lifestyle amenities. The surrounding environment includes the New City Ecological Park and designated heritage sites. At the start of the design process, the architects emphasized the harmonious coexistence of urban fabric and ecological landscape. Through setbacks and green extensions, the building was envisioned as an environmentally friendly urban node.
The project’s highlight lies in its dialogue between architecture and the city. By introducing a 6-meter setback, the architects transformed what could have been a closed-off block into a welcoming green arcade. Layered planters and street furniture line the space, while rows of trees on both sides create a shaded promenade where pedestrians experience a sense of enclosure beneath the canopy. This design reduces traffic interference, turning the street from a mere transit route into a social gathering space.
The entrance pavement is linked through linear greenery, with benches placed at turning points to invite pause—children can play while the elderly rest comfortably. During the day, the architecture conveys composure and restraint; at night, under lighting, it reveals a lighter, more graceful form, achieving a balance of subtlety and distinct recognition. Most importantly, vertical greenery on the façade acts as a breathing aperture for the city, extending vegetation from the street to the towers above, weaving ecological ambience into daily life.
