“Sculpting In Time” is an architectural exploration inspired by the naturally eroded forms of Taihu stones—objects shaped over centuries through the slow, deliberate force of water. Drawing from this poetic relationship between matter and time, the project investigates how the passage of time can inform and shape architectural design, both conceptually and spatially.
At the core of the design process is the use of computational scripting and circulation simulation to embody the passage of time. By simulating the movement of people and the erosion-like flow of circulation, the generated paths are not merely functional routes but serve as the primary structuring elements of the building itself. These flows solidify into the architecture, turning temporal traces into spatial experiences.
Designed as a public building within a campus setting, the project emphasizes openness and interaction. The elevated ground floor forms a permeable threshold, inviting pedestrians to pass freely through the site. A sunken plaza provides an intimate gathering space below, while a roof garden extends the landscape upward, offering views and leisure space that blur the boundary between architecture and nature.
Beyond its core function as a sports facility, the building integrates terraces and open facades that frame views and invite a range of public activities. These layers of accessibility and engagement make the structure not just a destination but an active participant in the daily rhythm of campus life—a sculptural expression of time, movement, and community.
