Once a private retreat for David Abercrombie, this historic castle now stands as a silent witness to a bygone era. Built as a refuge, the estate reflected David’s deep connection to nature, offering respite from city life. Today, it is reimagined as a premier retreat, reviving his adventurous spirit while embracing modern hospitality.
Abercrombie was a passionate outdoorsman, drawn to the wilderness and the pursuit of discovery. His belief in nature’s power to rejuvenate and inspire forms the foundation of this restoration. The estate is now envisioned as a sanctuary for travelers seeking to reconnect with the land and escape routine.
The castle will serve as the heart of the retreat, featuring a grand lobby and reception area rich in textures—aged wood, worn leather, and natural stonework. The dining garden will provide an elegant outdoor space for enjoying locally sourced cuisine beneath a canopy of trees. A tower bar will offer panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, immersing guests in the retreat’s history and grandeur.
For relaxation, a serene pool will be integrated into the terrain, offering a tranquil oasis. The castle will house luxurious suites, blending historic charm with modern comfort. Surrounding the estate, cabins will provide secluded accommodations that harmonize with the natural environment.
The materiality of the retreat ensures a seamless connection with the land. Locally sourced stone, reclaimed wood, and weathered metal will form the architectural palette, while interior elements will draw inspiration from classic expedition gear—worn leather, brass accents, and canvas textures.
This transformation is more than a restoration—it is a revival of a way of life. The retreat invites travelers to experience adventure as a philosophy. Through thoughtful design, storytelling, and a respect for its origins, ELDA will inspire generations to come.
