The Tea and Coffee bookstore project is situated in the Tianshangcunqian Historical and Cultural Block in Wuxi. The design team aims to establish an ideal environment for tea drinking and reading, seamlessly blending an intense classical oriental cultural ambiance. By intertwining modern textures with the ancient charm of Chinese aesthetics, a minimalist and refined Zen space is thus created.
Upon entering, the traditional wooden beams and tiled roofing prominently show the classic elements of oriental architecture. Such design features are prevalent in every portion of the space, like doors, windows, and bookcases. The design philosophy is anchored in the traditional and historical characteristics of the building, which ensures a cohesive spatial experience internally and externally. The extensive use of wood, evident in the tables and chairs, is enhanced by soft, warm yellow lighting, fostering a serene, elegant, and warm atmosphere.
It is important to note the profound cultural connection between the activities of reading and tea drinking, which are deeply bound to the context of Chinese culture. This cultural cohesion has been effectively captured in the design. In particular, the designer has adeptly employed modern design elements, such as lighting and soft furnishings, to mitigate the potential cold sense often associated with traditional Chinese spaces. This innovative approach adds a distinctive value to the design, rendering it a classic representation of modern interpretation.
