This project carries the dream of a Taiwanese homeowner returning home after years of living in Hong Kong. From the softly rounded edges of the living room ceiling extending into the dining area, to the gentle curves that resolve the sharp angles of walls, the design transforms the rigidity of urban living into the tender embrace of home. The wall finishes are kept in a calm, pristine texture. At the same time, the doors adopt the same treatment for a seamless, concealed look—echoing the homeowner’s inner tranquility and composure upon returning. Within this light-toned palette, the fluted glass sliding door filters sunlight into delicate fragments, bathing the space in a spring breeze. Together, these elements create a peaceful, heartfelt dwelling where the homeowner can live near family and friends, resting both body and soul in a comfortable, restorative retreat.
In response to the homeowner’s frequent gatherings with family and friends, the design opens up the living area to create an expansive, fluid recreation setting. The TV cabinet is recessed into the wall and ingeniously integrated with the master bedroom wardrobe behind it, forming a dual-faced, built-in system. The upper section serves as a hanging closet, while the lower section organizes wiring and equipment, resulting in a unified, sleek TV wall and an unobstructed public area. Paired with a round dining table, the layout comfortably accommodates group gatherings. Considering the homeowner’s travel-intensive lifestyle before retirement, the designer intentionally minimized the open shelving prone to dust accumulation. Instead, they optimized the space between structural columns behind the sofa for concealed cabinetry. With surfaces finished in wood veneer and spray-painted doors, these storage units disguise the columns while providing ample hidden storage. The result is an environment that harmonizes aesthetics and practicality, offering easy maintenance and visual simplicity.
Acknowledging Taiwan’s humid climate and seismic activity, all wall finishes were selected for their long-lasting anti-mold properties, complemented by eco-friendly materials such as high-pressure laminate boards, which provide durability and ease of maintenance.
