Chinese matcha has its roots in Guizhou; Guizhou matcha tastes like Gui Tea.
In 2024, Shangshan and Gui Tea Group jointly created the brand “Gui-Gui Matcha,” reviving thousand-year-old matcha culture with a contemporary brand philosophy. Matcha first rose in the Tang dynasty and flourished in the Song. To widen drinking occasions and spotlight its health benefits, we extended the line into pastry—Matcha Confections (Tang Guozi).
Born in the Tang dynasty over 1,400 years ago, these sweets accompanied the tea boom of the age; served at tea banquets, “tea fruit,” “guozi,” or “Tang guozi” became the refined nibbles scholars demanded. The fashion survived the Song and still charms modern palates. Gui Tea folds premium matcha into the traditional recipe, giving the bites a fresh, layered flavor that honors the past while awakening new demand. Since launch, sales have climbed steadily and reviews glow.
For packaging, Shangshan mined Tang-Song paintings for emblematic matcha motifs, then re-imagined them in hand-drawn comics that transport buyers back to imperial tea salons. The core palette keeps Gui Tea Group’s signature orange, reinforcing identity and warm heritage cues. The result fuses classical Eastern aesthetics with modern chic, matching today’s visual and emotional appetites. Every detail—from color to finish—heightens appetite appeal and cultural depth, turning the box into a bite-sized gallery that bridges history and the present.
