“Biang Jiangˊ: Striving Toward Our Beautiful Homeland” Exhibition Book

Biang Jiangˊ: Striving Toward Our Beautiful Homeland brings together treasured artifacts and collections from Taiwan’s public and private museums, local cultural institutions, and individual collectors to comprehensively showcase the multiple facets of Hakka culture in Taiwan. The exhibition is organized around six perspectives—history, life, faith, protection, innovation, and art—each named in the Hakka language as Saiˊ, Jiangˊ, Gin, Biang, Bien, and Qimˇ,collectively illustrating the diversity and vitality of Hakka culture in Taiwan.
The title “Biang Jiangˊ” carries a dual meaning. On one hand, it embodies the Hakka people’s spirit of resilience and perseverance as well as their aesthetics of daily life, expressing both the tradition and innovation of Hakka culture. On the other, it reflects how the exhibition gathers a rich collection from multiple major public and private institutions, allowing Taiwan’s Hakka cultural relics to shine together. The exhibition further encompasses themes of migration, community, aesthetics, beliefs, economy, industries, and arts, with curatorial and research contributions from professionals, cultural historians, and academics.
