The hotel’s design draws deep inspiration from the cultural heritage of Changsha, particularly the legacy of Yuelu Academy, one of China’s oldest academic institutions. Traditional architectural symbols, such as towers and pavilions, are abstracted and reimagined using contemporary materials and modern spatial language, creating a meaningful dialogue between the past and present. The first-floor lobby features a striking book tower—a modern homage to the academy’s spirit of knowledge. Golden maple leaves and a symbolic reference to the Six Dynasties Pine subtly infuse the space with regional identity. As guests move through the space, cultural elements unfold gradually: illuminated corridors lined with bookshelf-inspired designs, art installations referencing Aiwan Pavilion, and historical motifs like ancient hair crowns reinforce the city’s legacy. On the 36th floor, the sky lobby blends modernity and natural elements. Transparent partitions, minimalist furniture, and panoramic views create a serene atmosphere. Elements like an acrylic wall depicting the rising sun, horse sculptures symbolizing vitality, and a bar set within a circular moon gate all serve to merge cultural symbolism with modern hospitality. The dining area incorporates vibrant local imagery such as red chili art, boat-shaped installations, and lighting fixtures referencing scrolls and calligraphy brushes. Guest rooms continue the narrative, with gold-threaded book imagery on headboards echoing the Chinese idiom “books contain golden houses,” offering a quiet cultural retreat within the bustling city. The innovation lies in the transformation of traditional symbols into experiential moments, rather than direct imitation. This approach avoids superficial decoration while fostering a rich, immersive environment for global travelers. The design team carefully balanced cultural depth with modern comfort, ensuring that the space remains intuitive and engaging for international audiences. Material durability, minimalistic aesthetics, and the refined use of cultural references together contribute to a sustainable, timeless design.
