This work takes inspiration from ancient Chinese traditional culture, integrating the mythical creature "Yao Fish" from the "Classic of Mountains and Seas" and the "Flying Apsaras" from Dunhuang murals, to create a sculpture that blends culture and art. The combination of these two cultural symbols aims to convey auspicious, harmonious, and beautiful meanings, while showcasing the profound connotations and artistic peaks of Chinese civilization. As one of the oldest Chinese classics of mythological tales, "The Classic of Mountains and Seas" not only carries a wealth of mythical stories but also reflects the ancient people's imagination and reverence for nature and the universe. The image of the ray fish is both a mysterious creature and a symbol of freedom and inclusiveness. Its supple body dances with the waves, embodying the qualities of fluidity and the endless cycle of life. The flying Apsaras of Dunhuang are a resplendent jewel in the history of Chinese art. Their ethereal and graceful forms, as they dance and play music, reveal a beauty that is both solemn and ethereal, reflecting the pursuit of the ultimate artistic expression in the spiritual world of the East. In the design, the streamlined body of the manta ray serves as the main subject of the sculpture, combined with the dynamic yet static posture of a celestial being, creating a balanced aesthetic that embodies both motion and stillness. The ribbons and musical instruments of the celestial being are integrated into the form of the manta ray in an abstract manner, as if gracefully soaring through the clouds, continuing the characteristic of "weightlessness" from Dunhuang art, while also enhancing the overall visual tension and rhythmic sense of the work. The choice of materials for the sculpture employs a technique that combines metal with transparent materials, with the interplay of light and shadow presenting a dynamic beauty, allowing viewers to experience a collision of mystery and futuristic sensations while appreciating the work. This work is not only a tribute to traditional Chinese culture but also an attempt to blend tradition with modernity.
