This project is a four-story detached house in the mountains of northern Taiwan, designed for a professional dog trainer. The residence not only meets general family needs but is also specifically tailored to accommodate the training and living requirements of seven large dogs. The homeowner, an internationally experienced pet behavior correction trainer, ensured every design detail catered to her and her dogs' cohabitation needs, as these dogs are integral to both her daily life and career.
The design team faced the challenge of balancing functionality, comfort, and aesthetics while integrating the dogs' needs into the residential design. The first-floor living room and dining area, along with the master and secondary bedrooms on the second floor, feature the homeowner’s preferred gray, black, and off-white tones, enhanced by natural light. Materials like natural wood veneers, titanium-plated panels, marble, and leather create a sleek and sophisticated aesthetic that also emphasizes the outdoor green landscapes and blue skies.
Given the high humidity in the mountain environment, all spaces are equipped with temperature and humidity control systems, and all materials are treated for moisture and mold resistance. The design maximizes the benefits of fresh mountain air and natural scenery.
To accommodate the dogs, the design includes dog-friendly staircases and flooring, along with specialized dog bedrooms, bathing areas, and waste disposal passages to maintain cleanliness. The color scheme considers the dogs' color recognition, using shades of blue, gray, and yellow, complemented by soft beige and gray tones for a warm yet modern atmosphere. The basement, the dogs' primary activity area, features professional soundproofing to prevent disturbances to neighbors, and high-friction, ultra-durable flooring to prevent injuries.
This project successfully balances functionality and aesthetics, meeting all the homeowner's and her pets' needs, showcasing the design team's creativity and expertise in creating a harmonious living space.
